Dr. Sameer Ruparel is a Mumbai based Consultant Spine Surgeon with national and international fellowship training in complex spine surgery. Dr Ruparel heads the Spine Solutions Clinic, which are located at various places across the city. He is attached to reputed hospitals like Lilavati Hospital, Bandra.

Dr. Ruparel completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training from the prestigious Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Pune. Dr. Ruparel had keen interest in Spine Surgery right from then. Avid interest in field of Spine surgery enabled him to gather 6-12 months of basic spine training at this Institute.

Dr. Ruparel is one of the very few surgeons to be awarded the Long Term Fellowship of Association of Spine Surgeons of India annually. He spent 2 years at Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences, Mumbai and sharpened his skills and acumen in Spine Surgery. This is where his inclination towards Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery began. This fellowship is a National Board (ASSI) Certified Fellowship. During this period, he also underwent training in Neuro Surgery Unit for 6 months. Apart from presentations, Dr. Ruparel wrote numerous research papers and authored textbook chapters.

Dr. Ruparel then went to Japan at the Okayama Rosai Hospital to continue learning under the mentorship of Dr. Masato Tanaka– Vice President and Chief Consultant Spine Surgeon at Okayama Rosai Hospital, Okayama, Japan and President of Japanese Adult Deformity and Scoliosis Society. Here, Dr. Ruparel learnt the latest nuances of Spine Surgery- Tubular Endoscopic Spine Surgery, Navigation based Spine Surgery, Minimally Invasive Deformity Correction Surgery to name a few. He mastered novel techniques of Interbody fusion and also published a paper on this.

Dr. Ruparel pursued further advanced training at Melbourne, Australia. Based on his work related to Spine Surgery, this fellowship was granted by the Australian Institute of Musculo-Skeletal Research under the mentorship of Dr. John Choi. Dr. Ruparel held the Australian Provisional Medical Registration during this period. Dr. Choi provided hands-on experience on the application of Robotic technology and Endoscopic Spine Surgery. He presented papers at the prestigious Spine Society of Australia (SSA) and the International Society of Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS) during his tenure.

After his vast experience, Dr. Ruparel decided to come back to Mumbai and practice the latest principles learnt. Though his training involves advanced spine care, his practice is based on ethical guidelines where patient’s benefit is the ‘Top Priority’.
